  • A two-year member of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee fostering disability awareness and sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities.
      
  • Over 10 years committed experience in coaching people with multiple sclerosis to optimize their quality of life.
      
  • A high level of sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities; as a result of empathetic listening skills, personal experience with a disability and a history of advocacy for people with disabilities in various forums.
      
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate affective learning in a group setting as well as on a one to one basis.

EXPERIENCE & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

  • Provided services, referrals, advocacy and supportive counseling to people affected by MS from diagnosis, through disease progression to having to leave the workforce and adapt to living with a chronic illness.
      
  • Recruited, facilitated training of, and coordinated hundreds of volunteers over the years to raise thousands of dollars for the MS Society of Canada, York North Chapter.
      
  • Developed a network of various social service and business contacts throughout northern York Region over the past 10 years.
      
  • Presented proposals to, and enlisted the support of community organizations in benefit of the MS Society.
      
  • Participated in tutoring/mentoring programs for the Learning Centre for Georgina and the York-Simcoe Literacy Council.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

  • Assessed existing program administration, recommended, implemented and evaluated new procedures.
      
  • Resolved personnel problems and peer disagreements using strategies for conflict management.
      
  • Extensive experience in case management within a client-based service industry.
      
  • Developed and maintained databases, spreadsheets and mail merging processes.
      
  • Assembled data, prepared special reports, summaries and presentations.
