NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS?  BAH HUMBUG!  DETERMINE A FOCUS INSTEAD

Well, the New Year is creeping up on us day by day and minute by minute.  It’ll be here before we know it.  Did you keep your resolutions from last New Year’s Eve?  I gave up making New Year’s resolutions years ago.  I personally don't believe that our lives can change at the stroke of midnight on December 31st.

Instead, during the last few months each year I think about what I want to focus my energy on in the coming year.  I believe that it's just plain unrealistic to expect to manifest profound change in our lives overnight.  I feel that the most effective and lasting change comes about through transition, transformation and/or evolution.  Being human, and living with a chronic health condition, I know for sure that there will be days when I'll veer off course, and that's ok.  I can forgive myself for that and refocus when my energy and situation allows.  As long as I continue to keep refocusing throughout the year, eventually, I know that I'll reach my goals - one small realistic step at a time.  How do I keep my focus throughout the year?

First:  Vision ~ I have to get really clear about my focus and actually develop a vision of where I want to be or accomplish by the end of the following year.  I need to write about it, talk about it and meditate about it in order to pull that vision together.  One the visions that I’ve come up with for 2007 is to have 2 coaching products for sale on my website by the end of the year.  I firmly believe that coaching should be accessible to anyone who wants to maximize their quality of life, not just to those who can afford one-on-one services.  Therefore, my vision involves a group coaching program, a set of coaching CD’s and perhaps an eBook.

Second:  Accountability ~ It‘s vital that I surround myself with people and things that will not only support my vision but will push me towards it.  In order to make this happen, I’ve enlisted the help of my new assistant, LauraLee, to hold me accountable to the fruition of my goals.  She’ll not only keep me on track but she’ll add the synergy to the development process that only the collaboration with another like-minded individual can bring.

Third:  Inspiration ~ I submerse myself in the possibilities by attending any TeleClasses that come my way, picking up books, or subscribing to email newsletters on the topics that speak to my goals.  I believe in learning and achieving inspiration by "osmosis".  Sure there will be days when I don’t feel like reading the books that I surround myself with.  Absolutely there will be days when I delete all the newsletters sitting in my Inbox because I just won’t be up to taking in any new information that day.  But I will forgive myself and refocus when my energy returns or my schedule lightens up.  The most important thing is that I continue to refocus my efforts whenever I get sidetracked.

Fourth:  Process ~ In order to move toward my goals, I have to establish benchmarks along the way that chart my progress and motivate me to completion.  For example, I find it helpful to look at a project in its entirety and break it down into small, manageable pieces; then I set-up a spreadsheet that tracks the development, review and completion of each piece along the way.  This document makes a great place to come back to when I’ve been blown off track with my goals.

Even though life is constantly handing us distractions from our goals (and it ALWAYS will), as long as we firmly BELIEVE that we're capable of reaching those goals, we'll have the innate ability to refocus when the time is right.  If we can only develop the vision to see our goals as future realities, then this vision can provide us the desire and determination to be continually refocusing our efforts to get there.

As long as I continue to maintain my self-awareness, repeatedly refocus on my vision and keep reconnecting with the strategies I've put in place, progress will prevail and I will inevitably move forward, one small, realistic step at a time.  I truly BELIEVE with all my heart that if I keep recommitting to this 4-part formula, I will be marketing my coaching products by the end of the year.  Can’t wait to see them?  Me either!

FEEDBACK FORUM

"I have come a long way since we started these sessions and I owe a lot to you for helping me through some pretty horrible times. You have definitely provided me with skills to better handle tough situations. I'm doing great now thanks to you leading me, giving me the courage to continue and see that things are not hopeless and can always be better.

Thanks for helping me find the direction to the open door. I've come so far since the beginning of our coaching sessions. You must remember the turmoil I was in back then. I know that if I run into problems you are only a phone call away."

CHUCKLES TO LIGHTEN YOUR DAY

A LITTLE CHRISTMAS CHEER

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the pre-Christmas pressure.  Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her mother was coming to visit which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.  Then when he started to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.  So, frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum.

When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor.  In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.  He went to the broom and found the mice had eaten all of the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.  The angel said very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas Santa!  Isn't this a lovely day?  I have a beautiful tree for you.  Where would you like me to put it?"

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
